October 09, 1960 - June 09, 2017
Born October 19, 1960. Jim passed away at the age of 56 after sustaining a severe stroke on May 30th, 2017. Jim is the world's best Dad, a loving and supporting son, amazing brother, always present and loyal friend. He is a die-hard Cougar fan - in a "House Divided". He found his greatest joy spending time with his son that he adored fiercely. And you'd be hard pressed to find a son who loved their father more. Jim is the type of guy who shows up when needed. If you needed help, he was there. No, 'I'm busy.' No, 'Not today. How about next week?' If his sister needed help moving, he'd drive across the state and show up with a pizza and a smile. Need those studded tires off? I'll be right over and again with food. He is a connoisseur of great food - be it a great roadside diner or fine dining establishment. The Food Channel could always be found playing on the TV. He loves cooking and especially BBQing of which he was a master. His family and friends will miss his perfectly grilled meats! A favorite day for him was watching an action movie with his son then going out to eat. The day before his accident, his son and Jim took a back roads trip in a Mustang to Coeur d'Alene. What an amazing last adventure they had together. And lest we forget, ultimate car buff. He loves the outdoors, camping, gardening - anything dealing with nature. His dogs were some of the luckiest and most loved pups around. We have no doubt that many a tail will be wagging upon his arrival to heaven. Jim passed too soon. Jim would not want tears but for you to find joy - every day. So let his passing be a call to find happiness at all costs. Do whatever it takes to find your joy. CHASE YOUR DREAMS!!! Take that trip. LIFE IS SO EXTRAORDINARLY SHORT!!! And it can change on a dime... Be with your friends. Take care of your body. (EVERY home should have a blood pressure cuff. EVERY. HOME. It could save you or a loved one's life or brain. It did for his sister during this crisis.) So today, in honor of this great man, do something awesome. Sit in the sunshine and have an ice cream cone. Hang with a friend on a deck over a glass of wine or beer. Treat yourself to something you've been putting off. Buy that "thing" you've been lusting over. Take that art class you've been putting off. That restaurant you've been meaning to try, make a reservation... and raise a glass to a great man who left us all too soon. Jim was a Captain in the Air Force and served in Desert Storm. He navigated B-52s and RC-135s. He once told a story about how their team changed a proposed target based on seeing children's tricycles and toys. Jim graduated from Joel E. Ferris '79, Washington State University, '84, Luke Air Force Base Flight Academy. He is survived by his son, James Edward Wright III, mother Joyce Elaine Wright, sister Barbara "Paige" Wright, ex-wife Karin Visintainer, nephew Phillip Sims, and niece Sarah Sims. Services will be held at the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park, Friday, June 16th at 10:00am. (5200 W. Wellesley). Receptions details following service TBD and given at service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Spokane Food Bank or Spokane Humane Society. Or donate blood to the Spokane Blood Bank.
