Walter was born in Akron, Ohio to Walter and Bathony (Hawkins) Standridge. He was raised on a farm in Kent, Ohio. At 17 he joined the Navy and served on the minesweeper, the USS Captivate, from March 1943 to November 1945. After discharge from the Navy he returned to Kent to finished high school at Kent State. After graduation he rode his Harley-Davidson motorcycle to Los Angeles, CA where he met and married his wife, Lillian “Lee” Noyes on Sept. 2, 1949. They had 2 daughters they raised in Torrance, CA. In 1979 he started his company, WLS Coatings, and remained in the paint business for many years. He moved to the Spokane Valley in 2003 to be closer to family. Walter was preceded in death by his wife Lee. He is survived by his daughters, Laine Larson (Curtiss) and Janell Elliott (Randall Jackson), his grandchildren, Amanda Larson Monger (Brian), Geoffrey Larson (Jessica), Kyle (Julie), Erik and Carter Weskamp and Dustin Elliott, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
