February 24, 1931 - December 24, 2021

VonL Mullennix, 90, passed away at his home surrounded by family on December 24, 2021. Funeral services will be held at Sunset Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley, in Spokane, WA,on Thursday, January 13 at 10:00 AM with Chaplain Ed Hoffman officiating. VonL was born February 24, 1931, to James W. Mullennix and Lavona Mullennix. VonL graduated from North Platte High School in 1948 before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1950, serving on aircraft carriers during the Korean War. - He often spoke fondly of his time at sea and his many friends during his service to our nation. - In 1954, he left the service to return to civilian life and his family. - VonL married Shirley Jean Johnson on April 11, 1953, in Reno, Nevada. - They lived for a short time in Denver, Colorado before the entrepreneurial spirit led them to Phoenix, Arizona as a partner in his sewing machine business. - In 1959, VonL, Shirley, and their children moved to Spokane, Washington where they raised their family. - After over 30 years in the insurance industry, VonL retired in 1995 and began a labor of love, building with his own hands, the home Shirley and he would retire to and spend the rest of their lives. - VonL was an avid bowler and golfer. Until the snow flew or the greens were covered in frost, you could find him on any local golf course. When the golf courses went into hibernation, he turned to bowling for his winter activity. VonL was a devoted husband, married to Shirley for over 68 years. - He took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. - He was always there for his family; whether it was smooth sailing or the waters were rough; minor squall or gale-force winds, he was steadfast and calm during the greatest of challenges. He will be sorely missed. VonL is survived by his wife, Shirley of over 68 years, his children, Scott Mullennix, Vonda Campbell, (Steve), and Tracy Mullennix, as well as his six grandchildren, Matt, Kelsey, Ryley, McKenzie, Tanner, and Bailey, and six great-grandchildren.
