With family by her side, Vivian Kathleen Carpine (Grimmett), 87, passed away in Spokane, WA, on December 2, 2017.Vivian was born in Raymond, WA, on January 28, 1930, to Felix and Mayna Grimmett. Her early life was spent in Doty, WA. She graduated from Cheney High School in 1949 and later attended Eastern Washington State College, where she met her future husband, Antonio Dell Carpine. Vivian and Tony married on August 9, 1950, at Nazarene Parsonage in Cheney, WA. Along with raising four children, Vivian worked various jobs throughout her life. She loved books, and enjoyed working at the EWU Library for 15 years before retiring in 1995.Vivians favorite pastimes included growing flowers and vegetables in her garden, baking treats, playing Bingo and playing card games at home with family. She was a member of Diakonia Club and a supporter of EWU Athletics Booster Club. Vivian is survived by her children Glenda Ates, Gary Carpine (Jodie), Michael Carpine (Joyce) and Janice Fitzgerald (Leo); grandchildren Lisa Treppiedi (John), Christie Cogley (Ryan) and Theresa Tanner (Cole); four great-grandchildren; brothers Gary and Kenny Grimmett; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Tony; parents Felix and Mayna Grimmett; sisters Trena McNeill and Bonnie Balam; brother Clarence Bobby Grimmett; and son-in-law John Ates. The family wishes to share a special thanks to the staff at St. Josephs Care Center, Brookdale South Hill and Horizon Hospice for their dedicated care of Vivian. A celebration of Vivians life with family and friends will be held on January 13, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the American Legion in Cheney, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Vivians name to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in support breast cancer awareness and research.
