Vicki Diane Wingate

February 12, 1950 - February 21, 2016

Vicki Diane Wingate began life’s journey on February 12, 1950 in Oakland, CA. Adopted at birth by W.C. Abernethy Jr. and his wife Wilma, Vicki grew up in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains in Quincy, CA, along with her older brother Ron and younger sister Cindy, both fellow adoptees. Following college at California State University – Sacramento, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Juvenile Corrections, Vicki returned to Quincy and worked at Cal-Sierra Title Company. In 1976, Vicki moved to Hawaii, settling in Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu where she began a lifelong love affair with future husband Don “Lefty” Wingate. In 1982 Vicki and Lefty returned to the mainland, settling initially in Yakima, WA. Two years later, the couple moved to Spokane where Lefty opened an auto detailing distributorship, Lefty’s Distributing. Following Lefty’s death in 1994, Vicki assumed full responsibility for Lefty’s Distributing and built it into one of the largest per capita distributorships of Pro auto detailing products in the United States. Vicki died on February 21, 2016, stepping over a rainbow to re-join her beloved Lefty for whatever comes next. She wanted to express her appreciation for the many friends who shared her life and for those who helped during the course of her final illness, with a special thank you to Dr. Danko Martincic, Dr. Peter Rinaldi, Will Muncey, Tim and Sue. She is survived by those who loved her. In lieu of flowers, Vicki requested that when you have occasion to think of her, follow the thought with a random act of kindness.
