Steven Allan Myers was born in Darke County, Ohio, on August 4, 1938, and died on March 22, 2026, in Spokane, Washington, after complications from a fall. Even while in some pain and unable to walk between surgeries, Steve kept his family and the staff laughing until it was his time.
Steve graduated from Arcanum High School in 1956. He promptly joined the Navy, which took him to the Pacific Northwest for the first time. Steve attended the University of Cincinnati briefly before deciding to return to Seattle. He reconnected with his Navy chaplain, Oliver Olson, at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, which led him to pursue his calling as a Lutheran pastor. Steve then met Paddy (Eileen Patricia O'Callaghan) in the church choir, and they married on June 8th, 1962.
Steve attended Wartburg Seminary and was ordained in 1968. Soon after, the family’s nomadic life began with Steve serving churches in the Midwest, Eastern Oregon, and then back in the Pacific Northwest on Vashon Island, where they raised Jennifer, Steven, and Kari. After three more moves and 38 years of joyful marriage, Paddy passed away from cancer in 2001. After retirement, Steve met and married Connie, and they made their home in Spokane. The next few years brought frequent visits with granddaughters and travel to Mexico and Scotland. Connie passed away in 2009, and Steve spent the next 17 years living in Moses Lake and Spokane. He served as an interim pastor in several churches over the years, making friends wherever he went.
Steve loved fishing around Vashon and Whidbey Island; every Monday he brought fish home to be smoked, baked or fried! He made horseradish from the garden, cornmeal pancakes on Saturday mornings, and was often spotted dancing in the kitchen with his Paddy. He loved garage sailing, was an avid reader of detective novels and made sure his kids learned to play cribbage at an early age. He and Paddy loved spending time in Mazatlán and took their children to Holden Village and the Oregon Coast every summer. He also loved singing (barbershop!), taking day trips to explore the countryside and traveling abroad with his son, Steven, in his later years. Steve was an amazing conversationalist and storyteller, a great listener, and a loyal friend. Above all, Steve was a precious child of God who never doubted God, who knew Jesus would, in His time, come for him.
Steve is survived by his children: Jennifer (Scott) Hammer of Moses Lake, Washington; Steven (Susan) Myers of Brooklyn, New York; and Kari Myers of Vancouver, Washington. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Molly, Allison, and Greta Hammer, and Conor Myers. Steve’s brother Scipio (Skip) Myers resides in Wheeling, West Virginia and his sister, Ann (Greg) Freeman lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert (Bob) Myers.

Gary and Steve shared so many adventures and stories. We enjoyed many fun times together. I’m sure they are together getting caught up on all their stories and adventures. Rest in peace Steve and give Gary a hug from me. 🫶
