Sheila Elizabeth Smith

(Born 30 March 1962 – Passed peacefully at home, on 06 June 2026)

Sheila Elizabeth Smith, born on March 30, 1962, in Renton, Washington, passed away peacefully at her home in Medical Lake, Washington surrounded by her family after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Sheila was the beloved daughter of Lawrence and Carol Laing and was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence. She is survived by her mother, Carol; her siblings Beverly, Dale, and Janet; her devoted husband of 43 years, Gordon; her daughters Jennifer (John) and Brittany (Aaron); and her four cherished grandchildren Hayden, Ashley, Tyler, and Olivia, who brought endless joy and laughter into her life.

Sheila grew up in Omak, Washington, graduating from Omak High School in 1980. She earned her State Board Certification in Cosmetology in 1981, beginning a lifelong journey in both cosmetology and hospitality. No matter the role, she was known for her calm demeanor, professionalism, and the unmistakable warmth she brought to every interaction.

On July 3, 1983, Sheila married the love of her life, Gordon Smith, at her parent’s home in Omak. Together they built a life filled with grit, humor, and what Sheila proudly called “piss and vinegar.” Through 43 wonderful years, they raised two daughters and created a home defined by love, loyalty, and a fierce dedication to family. As a military spouse from 1983 to 2021, Sheila supported Gordon through four decades of active-duty & civilian Air Force service, anchoring their family with strength and grace through every move, challenge, and new beginning.

A gifted and avid crafter, Sheila never missed an opportunity to create something beautiful or make someone feel special. She found peace tending to her flowers, watering her plants, and spending time outdoors, simple joys that reflected her gentle spirit. She was known for her bright smile, her kindness, and her legendary two-hour hair care routine, which her family lovingly teased her about.

Sheila’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the 11th floor nursing staff and doctors at Deaconess Hospital and the gracious staff of Eden Home Health of Spokane, Washington, for their exceptional care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Sheila’s honor.

Sheila’s love, humor, and unwavering strength will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.

Sheila will be/was laid to rest at the Medical Lake Veteran's Cemetery on 15 June 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
