September 30, 1941 - December 09, 2014
Ron was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on September 30, 1941. His Mom and Dad were Bettie and Ray Tanner. Ray was an engineer on the Santa Fe Railroad, and was quite the athlete at the University of New Mexico, playing both baseball and basketball for the Lobos. Bettie was a cheerleader, but after raising 5 kids, she became a great bowler. She bowled a perfect 300 game after she reached the age of 60. Ron was an amazing athlete too. Great in almost everything -- baseball, basketball and later on in life - golf. Ron never had to practice much to be a good athlete -- he was really a natural at most sports. He worked in the oil and gas fields back in the 80's, and then settled into being a real estate agent and selling mobile homes near Albuquerque with Mom and his brother Tyson at Tanner Mobile Homes. Ron's brothers are Gary (living in Tucson with Peggy Richards), Randy (living in Seattle with his wife, Carmel) and Tyson (living in Albuquerque with his wife Terry). His sister is Terri Mims (living in Albuquerque with her husband, Phil). Ron lived most of his life in Albuquerque and became the caretaker of his mother the last few years of her life. After she passed away, Ron really was lost for awhile, not knowing what he wanted to do next. He always wanted to spend more time in Alaska and in 2012 started his journey north. However, heading to Alaska in the winter time proved to be bad timing, so Ron finally settled in at the Ponderosa Apartments in Spokane Valley, Washington. He became very attached to Pastor, Linda Elder, and the members of the Opportunity Christian Church in Spokane Valley. Ron was known most for his amazing help to those in need, both as a friend and spiritually. Perhaps Ron's past helped him to gain trust immediately with those in the Church and the Ponderosa Apartments. Everyone in his Church and where he lived knew him well and loved him like family. He will be known for his love for animals (his dogs), his strength in sports, his smile, and his little pokes to remind you that he can be a little ornery at times. In fact, his brother-in-law, Phil, nicknamed him, ""Uncle Ornery"". Cremation has taken place, and we are all comforted knowing that Ron is in the presence of the Lord. A private memorial will be held in Albuquerque.
