DORNING, Ronald (Age 91) - Dad was born September 3rd, 1925, in Seattle, Washington to Floyd Dorning and Myrtle Shore. From an early age he had an affinity for things mechanical especially cars. He began working at a GMC dealership, while still in high school, and returned after the war to complete 30 years there. He then moved on the heavy equipment until his retirement. 55 years in the Machinist union! Dad joined the army in 1943 and fought through France and Germany, and was part of the occupation force after VE day. He was a highly decorated Sargent in the 253rd infantry Blood and Fire. Our dad married our mom in June of 1951, taking on 3 kids in the bargain. My brother came along soon thereafter, and we were a real handful! Dad was a product of the depression and very frugal. He was a good provider and worked very hard, taking on many extra jobs to make sure we had what we needed. Dad was much loved by friends and family alike, for his quiet demeanor, respect, and sense of humor. He was a pretty fair trombonist in his youth. He loved to dance and enjoyed a good party and cheap beer. Our father exemplified The Greatest Generation. After retirement, Dad began to slide slowly into dementia. He is now whole again, and he and mother are together at last. A spring military service is planned at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Medical Lake.
