Rex Eugene King was born August 5th 1936 in Hastings, Nebraska, the son of Wilford King and Lucile (Adamson) King. He grew up in Othello, WA and graduated Valedictorian from Othello High School. He proudly served 3 years in the United States Marine Corps as a Ground Defense Radarman. In 1963 Rex was a graduate of Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduating he was awarded the Howard Hughes Masters Work Study Fellowship at the University of Southern California where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
In his 25 year career at Hughes Aircraft his fondest memories were when he was selected to be Project Manager in the implement of the Radar Defense System for all 15 NATO countries. This required him to travel much of the world and live in Paris, France, Brussels, Belgium and Tehran, Iran. Throughout his lifetime he travelled the world and learned to speak French, Spanish and Farsi.
Upon retirement he moved to Port Angles, WA where he enjoyed the views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and fishing salmon. Rex met Caroline (Ruiz) King in Othello, WA and they were married in 1998 and eventually made their home in Spokane, WA. Rex was very active in the community as well as a volunteer at Valley Hospital. He was very proud of the 35 years he spent as a member of the Greater Spokane #228 Elks Club, where he was a 3 term Exalted Ruler and 1 year as the National District Deputy.
Rex is survived by his wife Caroline King of Spokane Valley, WA, a son Rex E. King Jr of Denton, TX, daughters Corine King of Spokane Valley, WA, Christine King-Leigland of Rush City, MN. and a sister Bonnie Michel of Othello, WA. Four Grandchildren, Hunter, Tucker, Joelle and Savanna Leigland. He was preceded in death by father and mother Wilford and Lucile King, sisters, Karole Bradshaw, Shirley Layne and Connie McClure as well as his first wife Vanatta (Drummond) King.
