Raymond E Perry

October 17, 1931 - June 20, 2015

Prominent civic and community leader in the Spokane Valley passed away peacefully at home on June 20, 2015. His wife and family were at his side. Ray was born October 17, 1931 to Erwin and Beatrice Perry in Spokane WA the seventh of nine siblings. He is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanna, of 52 years and five children, Samm Butler (Connie), Vincent Butler (Karen), Julie Perry all of Spokane, Michael Perry (Cathy) of Mica, WA, Kristine Sweet (Welby) of Richmond, TX, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Yates of Spokane, brother, Wallace Perry (Pat) of Athol, ID and numerous nieces and nephews. Ray's integrity and dedication to the community along with his big smile won the respect and admiration of valley residents and business associates. He received numerous awards for his involvement in community activities and organizations. He was instrumental in the formation of the City of Spokane Valley where he was an active community leader. Ray worked at Jacklin Seed Co before graduating from CV in 1950 and enlisting in the Navy. He returned to Jacklin Seed Co and served in local community organizations as, President of the Valley Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of Valley Business Assoc and served on Spokane Interstate Fair Board. He retired from Jacklin's after 33 years and went on to manage the Fairgrounds for over a decade. During this time he stayed involved with family and children, as PTA president, levy committee chairman, umpire of Little League baseball, Boy Scouts, Church League basketball, camping and other activities. - Ray served as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Paschal Catholic Church and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. - Services will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 503 N. Walnut Rd, Spokane Valley, WA. - Vigil - Monday - June 29 at 7 PM - Funeral Mass - June 30 at 11 AM - The family extends their gratitude to Hospice of Spokane for their kindness.
