Patrick Matthews, born in 1967 at Holy Family Hospital, passed away after a courageous eight‑year battle with malignant melanoma. He was the beloved son of Theodore (Ted) and Dorothy Matthews and grew up in Spokane Valley alongside his sisters, Sheri and Betty Ann.
Patrick’s childhood was filled with football, summers at the family home on Coeur d’Alene Lake, and visits with relatives in Colville and Trail, British Columbia. He graduated from University High School in 1986 and soon after joined the United States Army. While stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, he met Ana - the love of his life and his wife of 35 years.
Together, Patrick and Ana built a life rooted in partnership and adventure. They were blessed with two children, Robert (Robbie) and Randee, and later, five grandchildren who became one of Patrick’s greatest joys.
Patrick earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Eastern Washington University and went on to serve the State of Washington through his work with the Department of Corrections and the Liquor and Cannabis Board. His career allowed him to pursue one of his greatest interests: financial investigations.
Another passion - poker - brought him joy and countless trips to Las Vegas.
Above all, Patrick’s greatest love was his family, and he especially cherished their time boating, camping and exploring the Inland Northwest.
Throughout his life, Patrick faced significant health challenges, yet his strength and positive nature meant most people never realized how much he was enduring. In his long fight against malignant melanoma, he was a warrior - meeting years of intense treatment with courage, humor, and an unwavering spirit.
He inspired everyone around him and often reminded others that life is ultimately about kindness, love, and making the most of each day. Patrick was also generous, giving to local charities and offering quiet, heartfelt help to those who needed support.
To his friends and family, Patrick was simply a good man – reliable, loving, and deeply committed. His strength, humor, and devotion to family will be remembered always.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley, in Sunset Chapel.
