March 18, 1953 - October 13, 2015

Patrick Rooney was called home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 13, 2015. He was born on March 18, 1953 to Bryant & Geraldine Rooney in Yakima, WA. Due to a heart defect, his family moved to Spokane, where in 1959, Pat was the youngest person to receive open-heart surgery at Sacred Heart Hospital. Pat graduated from Gonzaga Prep in 1971. He attended Eastern Washington State College and later the University of Washington. He married Darlene Yates on August 24, 1974. He and his wife, Darlene, and their children lived in Issaquah and Bothell, WA for thirteen years where he worked for QFC grocery stores. In 1989 he moved his family back to Spokane where he worked for Tidyman’s grocery stores for sixteen years and in recent years the YMCA of the Inland Northwest. Known for his sense of humor, he always had a joke, quip, or cartoon to share. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Pat was most passionate about his relationship with Jesus Christ. His motto was, “To live is Christ, to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21. Pat is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sheila Avila. He is survived by his wife Darlene, and children: Katrina Rooney (Casper, WY), Bethany (& Joe) Humphries (Kansas City, MO), Rachel Haynes (Spokane), Timothy Rooney (Spokane), and Jonathan Rooney (Columbus, OH). Pat & Darlene have six grandchildren: Joey, Ben, Emma, Elizabeth, Ariel, and Elias Humphries. He is also survived by his siblings: Daniel (& Angie) Rooney, Sharron Rooney, Dennis Rooney, Shannon (& Doug) Beadle, Seana (& Larry) Brooks, Erin (& Jim) Cotton, and a large extended family. A memorial service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held on Saturday, October 17th, 2pm, at Christ the Redeemer Church (1523 W. Mallon Ave, Spokane). Memorial gifts may be made to Christ the Redeemer Church and Hospice of Spokane. A private family interment will take place at Fairmount Memorial Park.
