Pamela Joan Karstedt (nee Ewy) was born on September 5, 1940 in the Slayton Minnesota Hospital to Elmo Ewy and Dorothy Ewy (nee Dorn). Pam grew up on a farm near Westbrook, Minnesota, after living a few years in California. She had three younger brothers: Jon, Jim, and Chris.

Pam helped her dad on the farm. He raised Quarter Horses and she became very good at training them. She won numerous trophies showing them.

Pam graduated from Westbrook High School, then went on to college at South Dakota State University. After the first year, she transferred to Mankato State University in Minnesota, where she met Dave Karstedt. They were engaged in their senior year.

After getting her bachelor's degree, Pam took a teaching job in Newport Beach, California, where she taught elementary grades. Dave joined the Air Force, getting his commission from Lackland AFB, then he was assigned to Norton AFB in San Bernardino, California. Pam got a teaching job there. In August of 1963, they went to Minnesota and were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook.

Pam traveled with Dave on all of his assignments except for Vietnam in 1968, when she went to Pipestone, Minnesota, where daughter Cindy was born. Together, Pam and Dave traveled to Germany; Colorado Springs, Colorado, where daughter Kristin was born; Iceland; Omaha, Nebraska; and Spokane, Washington, where Dave retired. They bought a home in Spokane Valley. Pam worked in sales for 10 years.

Pam passed away on September 27, 2026. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dave; her daughters, Cindy and Kristin; two of her brothers, Jon (Marge) and Jim (Brenda); five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
