June 17, 1948 - April 20, 2016
Michael A. Carlson, age 67, passed away from his battle with lung disease on Tuesday April 20, 2016, in his home. He was born June 17, 1948, in Spokane Washington, to Edward E. Carlson and Agatha L. Carlson (Schwab). Attending Lewis and Clark High, Mike quit school and entered the United States Army in July 1966, serving our country in the Vietnam War. He served in the 147th Assault Hel Co USARPAC. Upon his Honorable Discharge in March of 1969, he had received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He went on to work for the City of Spokane Water Department and other jobs, his last was working for IRS Environmental of Spokane Valley for almost 20 years. Mike had a zest for life and loved spending time camping, fishing, watching NASCAR races, and cooking for the summertime birthdays, other occasions, and being part of family gatherings, including July 4th as “Pyro Master”. Michael is survived by his significant other, Reta Enders; daughter, Brenda; granddaughter, Destiny; grandson, Kolby; Reta’s son, Jerry and grandsons, Tyson and Camron, who live on the west-side of Washington; daughter, Sabrina Byington (Dan) and two granddaughters, Emma and Mia; brother, Rick Carlson (Linda); nephews, Dustin (Carrie) and Damon (Nicole); niece, Alexis; Nephew, Devan; and cousins, Jack, Judi and Chrissy. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, sister, step-mother and aunt.
