Melvin Clyde Friesen, 93, who preferred to be called Mel, was born in Lookeba, Oklahoma to Clyde Henry and Pauline Friesen on October 16, 1932. He was the only son with five sisters. His oldest sister, Verla, at 101 years, lives in Twin Falls, Idaho.Â
The family moved to Porterville, California and later to the San Joaquin Valley of California. He spent four years in the US Navy during the Korean War and later graduated from San Jose State College in 1960. He then worked several years for the Southern Pacific Railroad as a trainman.Â
In 1967 he married Eva Lee Faith. He is survived by her and their two sons, Daryl (Tiffany) Friesen of University Place, Washington and Wade (Keely) Friesen of Spokane, Washington; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
With his family and seven nephews and three
nieces and their many memories, Mel will be fondly remembered and missed.Â
