Maxine Annette Kays

July 01, 1938 - November 26, 2018

Maxine Annette Heiser (Buck) Kays - July 1, 1938 to November 26, 2018 Maxine was born in Camas, WA to Wilbur and Olive Heiser and had one brother, Robert Heiser. Maxine spent most of her growing up in Montana and graduated from Gardner High School. She then traveled to Spokane with her classmate Phyllis to attend Kinman Business College. She met Bob Buck and they raised their family of three children in Davenport, WA. In 1988 Maxine moved to Alexandria, VA to be with long time friend Vern Kays and they were married March 1989. After retirement they headed west back to Montana where her mother Olive lived until her passing. Vern and Maxine then moved out to Spokane to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Maxine enjoyed traveling to see friends and family, but she liked it more for them to visit her at “mom’s bed and breakfast”. Maxine treasured every moment she could spend with all her grandchildren. She sewed and quilted for all of them and for many others. Her passion was her bountiful garden that could be shared community-wide. Let’s not forget her joy for cooking and baking which we would all enjoy time and time again. - Maxine was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, stepson Dan and step granddaughter Rachael. Maxine leaves behind her loving husband, Vern Kays; children Debbie (Mike) Means, Judy (Rodger Wagner) Miller, Brian (Tammie) Buck, stepdaughters Robin Kaplan and Joan (Marshall) Beverly. She has 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her loving pups, Sophie, Beamer, Buster and her cat Louie. - A Celebration of Life will be held December 15, 2018 at 1pm at the Wren Pierson Community Center, 615 4th St., Cheney, WA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Hospital or NW North Pole Adventures, aka Spokane Fantasy Flight, https://nwnorthpole.org.
