Baum, Mavis Opal (Smith) Age 88 Mavis was born on June 14, 1928, in Roundup, MT to Frank and Bernice Smith, she passed away at Hospice House of Spokane on July 18, 2016, with family and friends surrounding her. She started her career as secretary/bookkeeper at Nabisco in Cheney to help put Dean through college. When the family moved to Colville, she worked for the State of WA and started her never-ending career as a farm wife. The family moved to the area north of Seattle then back to Eastern Washington settling south of Othello where the family raised crops and cattle. Mavis and Dean moved to Fruitland, WA where the continued farming and raising cattle. Mavis was involved in bowling and the Grange and was a Grange Insurance Representative in Stevens County. In 2006 she moved to the Spokane Valley area to be closer to family. Mavis is survived by her brothers Lynn D Smith and Steven Richardson and Neal & Donna Smith, her 2 daughters Sharon (Arnold) Willis of Soap Lake WA, Bev (Terry) Brandvold of Liberty Lake WA, and son William Baum of Naselle WA. She had 10 grandchildren and was blessed with numerous great and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Dean Baum, sister Aleta Moad, brothers Dennis and Emmett Smith, parents Frank R Smith and Bernice (Johnson) Smith. A graveside memorial and luncheon will take place on August 21, 2016 at 1:00pm at Greenwood Park Cemetery, Hunters/Springdale Rd, Hunters, WA. Community Cremation & Funeral Spokane Valley - 13127 E.
