December 15, 1954 - March 16, 2016
Mavis Lee Hogan (Age 61) After a 10 month long and courageous battle with cancer, Mavis died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving husband and children. Mavis was born Dec. 15, 1954 in Chewelah, WA to Harold and Wilma Kinney. When she was five years old, her parents moved the family to Spokane where she would live the remainder of her years. Mavis graduated in 1973 from Mead High School and shortly thereafter married John Bledsoe. Together, they had two children. Their son Philip was born in 1974 and their daughter Amber in 1977. June 20th, 1981, Mavis married Gary Hogan, the man whom she would spend the remainder of her days with and whom honored his vows to the end! Mavis and Gary welcomed their daughter Janessa in 1985. Mavis began working for the Central Valley School District in 1984 but soon left to be a stay-at-home mom to their three children. In 1986, Mavis began her business in her home as a licensed child care provider that continued until the day of her cancer diagnosis in May 2015, which led to her retirement. Over the years, it is estimated that Mavis loved and cared for over 150 children. The love she had for all her daycare children could be witnessed in the way she lobbied for safer and more effective child care laws. She was active in the Childcare Association as Vice President for two years and Worthy Work Worthless Wages for five years. In 1998, Mavis won the prestigious Evergreen Award for the S.A.F.E. Place Committee that she was chairperson of which was formed to contribute to the safety of all children. In addition, she traveled to many conferences to continue her education and even held mystery dinners for childcare providers and licensers alike. Mavis believed in the body, mind and spirit connection and loved to travel to holistic and metaphysical fairs around the country. While running The Magic Mystical Tour, she loved organizing small fairs and arranging for speakers. Mavis was a fun-loving woman who was always full of life and looking for a laugh up to the end. She will be remembered as a STRONG woman full of dignity and grace and missed and loved by many friends and family. She is preceded in death by her father Harold, mother Wilma and sister Carol. She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years Gary Hogan, son Philip Bledsoe, daughter Amber Suzara (Randy), daughter Janessa Hogan, seven grandchildren, her sister Janet, her half-brother Donald and a wealth of friends. A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on Sunday March 20th, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Refuge Church at 4904 N. Harvard Road, Otis Orchards, WA 99027.
