On August 8, 2025 we lost our precious Son, Matthew, 39, despite his courageous and fierce battle against cancer. Matthew never lost his fighting spirit and persevered to the end, unfortunately it was too much for his body. Matthew worked as an IT Specialist and was obsessed with power cords and chargers. He loved reading and writing, and was a true cat whisperer who also dreamed of travels to Japan and Alaska. A true renaissance man, he loved everything from Broadway plays, Movies, and Anime, to reading the Classics, Mythology, Science Fiction, and Manga. He also delighted in watching ridiculous YouTube cat videos. Matthew is survived by his loving parents, Eric and Cynthia, his brother, Stephen, and his loving partner, Jessica "Mika" Gassert.
There will be a Celebration of Life Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley Ave. Spokane, WA 99205. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

My heart breaks for your family
Thinking of your family at this time. Matt was a beautiful soul, he was a life saver to our family many times. All we had to do is ask and he was there.
