Marylou NMN York

March 26, 1929 - November 02, 2014

YORK, Mary Lou (age 85) Mary Lou passed away peacefully on November 2, 2014 after a hard fought battle with Alzheimerâ??s. She graduated with honors from Rogers High School and at school reunionâ??s classmates thanked her for tutoring them. She had an extremely successful career. One of her first jobs was working at the Davenport Hotel. She wrapped up her career working for New York Life Insurance retiring after 16 years of service. She retired to pursue her many passions; baking and canning fruits with her grandchildren, gardening, reading, time at the lake swimming and boating and spending time with her family. She loved babies and driving fast! She would always say, â??I donâ??t drive fastâ? but her husband disagreed. He purchased a license plate for her car which read, â??I donâ??t drive fast, I fly lowâ?. Her favorite time was working alongside her husband Howard in their garden. Although the garden would be considered small, they generously shared with family and friends. They believed God continued to bless them so many could enjoy the wonderful fruits and vegetables. She impacted the lives of her family and friends with her compassion, warmth and loving personality. Mary Lou and Howard were long time active members and supporters of the Spokane Valley United Methodist Church. They loved traveling together and with their church family. Mary Lou was married to Howard York who preceded her in death in 2012. Also, preceded in death by her parents William J. Curry and Clara Curry, her brother Jack W. Curry all of Spokane Washington. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Karen) Grothe, Michael (Dee) Grothe both of Lake Oswego, Oregon; daughters Wendy (James) Numata, Leslie (Rory) Spurgeon of Spokane WA; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by Howardâ??s children son, Eugene York of Moses Lake, WA; daughters, Beth VanAuken of Moses Lake, Linda York and Shelley York, both of Seattle, WA, and Debbie Visser of Arcata, CA; their children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Alzheimerâ??s Association Inland Northwest Chapter: 910 W. 5th Ave, Ste. 256 Spokane, WA 99204 or Hospice of Spokane: 121 S. Arthur, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210. A private service will be held November 10, at 10:30 AM, at the Eastern Washington Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Rd., Medical Lake, WA, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband. Community Cremation & Funeral Spokane Valley 13127 E.
