Mary Alice Smith

December 31, 1928 - January 02, 2016

Mary Alice Smith passed away peacefully at home on January 2nd, 2016, surrounded by friends and family after a battle with CHF. By her side up until the end were: Mary Anne, Butch, Reneé, Brandy, Kayla, Sheila and Mike. Mary was born in Lemmon, SD to Martin and Agnes Allart on December 31st, 1928. She married Robert Smith in 1945 and shared 30+ years of marriage with him until he passed in 1976. Mary was awarded the Pioneer of the Spokane Interstate Fair Award in 2004 for her stand “Zippy Dogs”, which she ran for 49 years. She also worked at Newberry’s in the U City Mall as a café manager for 16 years until it closed. Mary is survived by her children, Mary Anne and Robert; sister, Jean; sister, Beverly; brother, Dick; as well as eleven grandchildren, many great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her daughter, Margery Jean Smith; her parents, Martin and Agnes; and her brother, Bud Allart. A Celebration of Life will be held in Mary’s honor on January 9th at 11am at the Elks Lodge 2605 N. Robie Rd. Spokane Valley, WA. Community Cremation & Funeral - Spokane Valley - 13127 E.
