September 26, 1922 - March 22, 2017
Marjorie M. Gorton went to be with the Lord on March 22, 2017 at the age of 94. Marjorie was the second of five children born to Frank and Mary Wurster in La Porte, IN, on September 26, 1922. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic schools in La Porte and later served in SPARS, the United States Coast Guard Women's Reserve. - Marjorie met and married Milo L. Gorton, Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army, in Coral Gables, FL, on June 3, 1945. Upon Milo's discharge from the Army, the couple relocated to Spokane, WA. In 1946, daughter, Susan, was born and son, Lawrence, followed in 1947. Marjorie settled in to a comfortable life as a homemaker while Milo pursued a career in education with Spokane School District #81 as an elementary school teacher and principal. They were married for 48 years before Milos passing in August 1993. Her interests focused on tending to her immaculate yard and bountiful garden, in addition, to time spent with family. She was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of Mary Queen Parish. Marjorie was very good natured and a lot of fun. Treasured are the weekend trips full of so much laughter that our sides hurt. - Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Milo Gorton; parents Frank and Mary Wurster; brothers, Don and Bill Wurster; and sister, Cass Taylor. She is survived by brother, Jim (Elaine) Wurster; of La Porte, IN; daughter, Susan Tarbert of N. Palm Springs, CA; son, Lawrence Gorton (Jane), of Spokane, WA; five grandchildren, Tama Weaver (Bruce), of Spokane, WA, Michael Sorey (Lisa), Medical Lake, WA, Brian Gorton (Ashley), Kalispell, MT, Denise Gorton, Okinawa, Japan, and David Gorton (Amy), Seattle, WA; numerous great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Carole Martin, Mena, AR; Christy Kludt; Georgetown, TX. - At Marjorie's request, no funeral services will be held. A graveside service at Pines Cemetery will be announced at a later date. We would like to thank Royal Park Retirement Center and Horizon Hospice for the tremendous kindness shown to Marjorie over the past six years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Horizon Hospice, 123 W. Cascade Way, Spokane, WA 99208.
