Marie D Smith

January 27, 1921 - September 19, 2017

Born on a farm in Iowa in depression times, Marie moved to Lynden, WA as a teenager where she graduated from Lynden High School. After graduating business college in Bellingham, she began working at the Lynden Tribune where she met and married James Byron Smith (10/12/1951). In 1952 they settled in Spokane, where Jim worked as a reporter for the Spokesman and they raised their family. She was preceded in death by her parents Klaas and Grace (Hulst) Dykstra, six sisters, two brothers, her husband James and two sons Kirby (1955) and Troy (2002). She is survived by daughter Karlea & Lory, granddaughter Amanda (great-grandchildren Alex & Jenacy); son Carter and daughter-in-law Debbie, grandson Joel, granddaughter Laura & Evan (great-granddaughter Eleanor), and grandson Kent & Kate (great-grandchildren Sasha as well as nieces and nephews, and numerous extended family members. She touched the lives of many and we were blessed by her tremendously tough constitution and gentle spirit. She will be buried with her husband at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hill and dale in slumber sleeping - I my loved ones' watch am keeping, - All through the night.
