Margaret Marie Christiansen

August 29, 1925 - January 16, 2016

Died peacefully in Spokane, Washington on January 16, 2016 at the age of 90. Margaret is survived by her brother, Kenneth Albert Darby; children: Debra Christiansen (Bruce), Alice Holcomb (James); grand-children, Brian Green (Tiffany), Jared Green (Melissa), Sarah Seinen (Ben), Anne Marie Proctor (Nick), Aaron Holcomb (Sloan),Jesse; great-grandchildren: Cora Marie Proctor, Nixon Connor Green, Kai Maddox Green and Blakley Marie Seinen; and four nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Carl Christiansen, her twin brother Willard Emery Darby and her half-sister Hazel Wright. Margaret was born on August 29, 1925 in Julesburg, Colorado. The family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska when she was small. She attended two years at Nebraska University and then went to work as a bookkeeper at Minneapolis Molene. - In 1950, she married Kenneth Christiansen. Kenneth and Margaret built a house in Omaha and welcomed their first child Debra in 1953. In 1956, the family moved to Fort Worth, Texas and welcomed their second daughter Alice. After their daughters were born, Margaret dedicated herself to her work as a full time Homemaker. She and Kenneth were always active in their faith and participation in their churches. The family moved to Saratoga, California in 1969. Margaret once again became an active volunteer in their church Saratoga Presbyterian and later at the Sacred Heart Community Center. After her daughters left home, Margaret went back to work full time at Syntex Pharmaceutical Corporation as a bookkeeper. She worked there for 13 years until she retired. - Margaret moved to Spokane in 2003, a short time after her husband Kenneth passed away, to a condo in the Riverview Retirement Community Village and then to an apartment in the Terrace in late 2008 until her death. Margaret loved her family with a passion and would do anything for them. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress and kept a spotless home. She taught her children and grandchildren by example and with her faith, loving care and concern for her family and others. A Memorial Service celebrating Margaret's life will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 2:00PM at the Riverview Retirement Community Chapel, 1801 E. Upriver Drive, Spokane, WA with Pastor Gary Moore officiating. Donations can be made to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, 1004-E. 8th Ave., Spokane, WA or the Salvation Army
