July 17, 1923 - June 02, 2017
Lloyd, a loving father and grandfather passed away early Friday morning peacefully in his sleep. He lived almost 94 wonderful years. He has joined his late wife Betty Lou McGregor/Westensee. Lloyd was born in Spokane on July 17,1923 to Otto and Edna Hendrikson and had three brothers. He grew up on a small dairy in the Spokane Valley and attended West Valley H.S. Upon graduation, he joined the Coast Guard. He served on a troop transport ship in both the Pacific and the Atlantic during WWII. After the war, he returned to Spokane and worked for the phone company where he met Betty. They were married for 51 loving years. Lloyd spent some years breeding, training and racing thoroughbred horses mostly at Playfair Race Track in Spokane. Later Lloyd and Betty spent time snow birding with friends in Arizona. Lloyd lived in Post Falls, ID then moved to a retirement complex. He spent his last year at the VA long term/hospice center. He enjoyed all the activities, visiting with other vets, volunteers, special events, and all the wonderful caregivers and excellent care he experienced while living there until his passing. Lloyd is survived by his daughter Kathleen Milne and son Kenneth Hendrikson, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. There will be a private gathering later in July to remember our wonderful and loving father. Donations may be made to the Spokane Veterans Hospital Hospice Unit.
