Linda Louise Bean

June 28, 1940 - March 12, 2016

OBITUARY - LINDA LOUISE BEAN - Linda Louise Bean, a long-time resident of Spokane, died on March 12, 2016 after an extended illness. Born on 28 June 1940 at La Grande, Oregon, she is a daughter of Co I.Walter Arnold Bean and Rose Emily Ellis Bean. Surviving are one sister and two brothers: Rosemary Bean Burton (Jack) of Provo, Utah; Walter Ellis Bean (Viola) of Boise, Idaho; and Dr. Vern Ellis Bean (Carol), of Frederick, Maryland, and 18 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Dr. John Ellis Bean (Ruth Ellen) of Bellevue, Washington. Linda graduated from La Grande High School in 1958, attended Eastern Oregon University, and graduated from Brigham Young University with a BS degree in microbiology in 1962. She obtained her certification as a laboratory technologist at Deaconess Hospital, Spokane, Washington in 1963 and then worked at Deaconess until her retirement in 2010. She was an active, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a number of positions including many years as the Compassionate Service Director, providing and organizing help for those in need. She was much loved for her gracious and generous spirit. Linda was an excellent seamstress and quilter and made baby quilts for her nephews and nieces. She was well known for her peanut brittle and her rocky road (a confection made of chocolate, marshmallows and walnuts) which she made during the holiday season and gifted to her many friends. Being an avid reader, Linda carried a book in-hand most of the time, and she loved and valued get-togethers with her family and friends. She enjoyed travel, particularly the cruises to the south Pacific and to the Mediterranean with Brigham Young University Travel Study. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1620 E. 29th Avenue in Spokane, WA at 10:00 am, under the direction of Bishop Mathew Rawlins~Burial will be in La Grande, Oregon, beside her parents.
