August 19, 1933 - April 17, 2016
WATKINS, Linda Gay (age 82) It is with much sadness that we say good-bye to a sister, sister-in-law, and aunt who was like a mother and a great friend. Linda was born on August 19, 1933, to Claude and Myrtle (Mick) Watkins. She was the last of six children. In 1945 she moved with her family to Twisp, Washington, after her father purchased the Methow Valley Newspaper. It was there that Linda acquired a love for type-setting. As a woman of just 19 years old, she faced a lot of competition but eventually she won over the men’s admiration and acceptance. Linda worked for the Wenatchee Daily World for many years before moving to Spokane in 1979. Eventually she achieved her dream – her own type-setting business, “Type Setting Unlimited”. After retiring, she moved into an apartment facility where she made many friends. Linda never met a stranger, making friends with everyone she met. She loved on those who seemed lonely or poor and brought cheer to everyone with her sense of humor. Linda is survived by her best friend and sister, Dinah Widmer; and twelve very dear nieces and nephews, who she always felt were her children because she never had any of her own. She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Duane, Yvonne, Zeke and Chloe. We know Linda went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ and so we will see her again. A memorial to celebrate Linda’s life will be held May 14, 2016 at 1 PM at Heritage Heights apartment complex, 3818 N Cook St, Spokane, WA 99207. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either The Union Gospel Mission or Hospice of Spokane.
