September 17, 1954 - August 5th, 2024
Following a lengthy battle with cancer our beloved Laura Kaluba passed away with her family by her side on August 5th at the age of sixty-nine. Laura was our beacon of light shining and touching so many lives with her kindness, gentleness, and huge caring heart. Our sister Laura was a gift to our hearts, a friend to the spirit, and a golden thread that weaved a special place in our hearts.
Born to Dorothy and Stephen Kaluba on September 17, 1954, in Cleveland, Ohio. Laura had a global landscape of living in Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, and Akron Ohio. Together Laura and her wife, Peg Sweeney shared a lovely home in Seattle, Washington prior to settling in Rathdrum, Idaho. Laura was a cherished member of the Twin Lakes Community Golf Course. Her passion for golf with the “Women’s Nine Hole” group was a highlight of her life and brought her great happiness and fond memories.
Laura’s passion and loving nature for others guided her to provide volunteer companion support for Hospice of North Idaho. She was an active participant in the Grey Panthers of Seattle whose mission is to ensure equity, inclusion, through heroic acts of kindness and empowerment of the elderly. She revealed her compassion while volunteering on a regular basis in the community soup kitchens of Seattle.
Many people who knew Laura were unaware of her musical talent. She was a gifted composer and vocalist who soulful lyrics combined with her hauntingly beautiful voice immediately captivated all those in her presence by touching people’s hearts and souls.
Laura is survived by her loving wife of thirty years Peg Sweeney. She was the proud pet mom of Colton and Mango. Laura had a large loving family of Jim and Jenise Sweeney; Shelia and Steve Cornell; Mary Lou Dion; Carol and Robbi Weaver; Dan and Linda Sweeney; Kevin and Karen Sweeney. Laura was also aunt and great-aunt to numerous Sweeney nieces and nephews. She was a loving sister to John, Bernadette, and Stephen. A sister-in-law to Tom and an aunt to Amanda as well as a great-aunt to Harlee. Her special friend Janet Kotyk whose considerate, unselfish, and loving heart offered support and compassion that will never be forgotten and for which our family is forever grateful and blessed to have her as part our family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you give a charitable contribution in Laura’s name to a charity of your choice. Our fondest hope is that her loving kindness will flow through us to every heart we touch so that they too can feel her loving presence.
I Live On In You
(Words and Music by: Laura Kaluba)
“Listen to me, I’m losing you in this sadness you’re holding on and on to…
My leaving is lingering on and on in you…my leaving is lingering
Listen to me, I will not lose you to this sadness you’re holding on to
I live on in you…I live on in you
Listen to me…Listen to the wind
I’m the wisp against your collar,
The warm breeze against your skin.
I’m the laughter at the family table
When you talk of times gone by,
And I’m sitting there with you
late into the night.
So if you stop looking where I’ve gone
And start seeing where I’m here
Your heart will heal in time
And you’ll hear my laughter
And you’ll feel my touch
All those things are still yours
You loved about me so much…
Listen….”
