Kent Eugene Higgins

Kent Eugene Higgins, 80, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026.  He put up a strong fight against cancer for the last 10 months.  Kent was born on April 30, 1946 to Ernest (Ernie) and Elsa Higgins in Spokane.

Kent graduated from North Central High School in 1964 and married his high school sweetheart, Gayle Amanda Ross, in 1965.  Prior to graduation he started his career in the auto parts field with Skaggs Automotive. He worked in this industry until he retired from Oxarc after he turned 65.  He enjoyed working in sales and made friends easily as he loved to talk and get to know everyone personally.

Kent enjoyed NHRA, NASCAR Races and tailgating with his friends for many years when they traveled to watch these in Seattle.  He collected model cars and enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on Hayden Lake throughout the years.  He loved to watch football and college basketball, always rooting for our local teams.

Kent was a caring husband and took on the role of caretaker for our mom, which presented many challenges for them.  Throughout his cancer treatment and assistance with mom he always led with a smile and a positive attitude.  Our mom passed in August and he missed her tremendously; he would always mention that he was lost not being able to hold her hand.

Kent is survived by his two children, daughter Kim (Dennis) Gamache; son Kent S. (Theresa) Higgins; and grandchildren Natashea and Cheyenne.  He was preceded in death by his wife Gayle; his parents Ernie and Elsa; and his two brothers Neil and Lance Higgins.

Special thanks to Sarah Jane Brown (niece) and Curt Nerger for helping him navigate his cancer treatments.

Please join us on Monday, October 19, 2026 at 11am, Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W Wellesley Ave to celebrate Kent and Gayle’s lives.  Encourage all to wear their favorite sports attire.  Reception to follow at a separate location to be announced at the service.
