June 20, 1927 - October 01, 2017

Ila June Attebery Jones passed away October 1, 2017 at Touchmark Skilled Nursing in Spokane, Washington. Ila was born June 20, 1927 in Weiser, Idaho to Ernest Attebery and Flossie Elma Newman. She moved to Dayton with her family in 1941. That summer harvest she worked for Charlotte Smith. At the end of summer Charlotte invited her to move in with her recently widowed mother, Lula Newton. Ila learned many things from Mrs. Newton. She remembers Lula always saying there is not one thing a woman cant do if she puts her mind to it. She lived with Mrs. Newton throughout her high school years. Starting in 1945 she attended WSU for two years. In 1947 she married Dorsey Mason Martin in Dayton, WA at the home of Lula Newton. They had 3 children Virginia (Ginny) Richard (Rick) and Craig. She was always involved with her children, leading Blue Birds, Camp Fire and Cub Scout troops. Her closest friends were Darlene Broughton, Doris Nelson, Pricilla Rodland and Barbara Wellsandt. They formed a group called the Breakfast Bridge Club that met right after their children were off to school and lasted until lunch. Bridge was the excuse to visit with, council and console each other. Dorsey owned and managed Dorseys Restaurant in Dayton with his father and mother Dewey and Alfretta Martin. Ila occasionally worked at Dorseys and worked one summer for Green Giant on the asparagus line. Ila was primarily a homemaker but in 1965 she went to work for the project manager for Little Goose Dam as an executive assistant. Ila and Dorsey divorced in 1967. In 1971 she and her son Craig, moved to California near San Francisco to be closer to her daughter Ginny. She used her experience with large construction projects to work in San Francisco as an executive assistant on such jobs as the Hyatt on Union Square, the Embarcadero and Bart. In 1988 she changed her first name to June and married John B. Jones, a principle in the accounting firm of Jones, Schiller & Company in San Francisco. They had many wonderful years together travelling all over the world. She made many close friends in the Bay Area and often entertained friends and family. After John died she moved to Spokane in 2007 to be closer to her children. She renewed many old friendships in Dayton and Spokane and was able to spend her last years surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters Nita and Erma, brothers Don and Virgil and husbands Dorsey and John. She is survived by her brother Orville (Shorty) Attebery of Dayton, WA, and sister Doris Attebery of Henderson, NV, her daughter Ginny (Dan) Butler of Dayton and Spokane, son Rick (Melissa) Martin of Spokane, son Craig (Yan) Martin of Dayton, stepsons John (Glennis) Jones of Kentfield, CA and Chris (Kathy) Jones of Santa Rosa, CA, and grandchildren Elizabeth, Elise and Grant Martin, John (Katherine) Jones and Kayley Jones, Christina Mirales and Erin (Todd) Towery. Memorials may be sent to the Dayton Historic Depot Society, 222 E. Commercial Street, Dayton, WA 99328.
