November 07, 1946 - January 02, 2016
Our beautiful Julene was united with her Savior and loved ones in heaven on January 2nd, 2016. Her long and spirited battle against cancer was an inspiration to all who knew her. Julene was born on November 7, 1946 to Robert J. and Irma I. Neil. She was raised in Spokane and attended Rogers High School. - Julene was a loving and devoted mother. She enjoyed creating special traditions and camping with family. She had a great sense of humor and remarkably positive attitude. She was a loving daughter and sister and a fun and loyal friend. Later in life, Julene was a giftware representative for Dept. 56 from 1989-2009. She won many awards for her outstanding sales performance and she made many dear and lifetime friends in the showroom and across her territory. - Julene met the love of her life, Charles Wood, in 2001 on a bicycle ride in Canada. They were married in Hawaii in 2004 and embarked on a lifetime’s worth of adventures squeezed into six years. Their active lifestyle took them to ski slopes, beaches, bike rides and even a marathon. They were a hard pair to keep up with! After losing Charlie to cancer in 2010, Julene found great comfort in her faith and spending time with family, friends, and her feline friends, Fifi and Sherman. Diagnosed with cancer in 2002 and despite the challenges she faced, she never lost her faith, her passion for life, or her grateful and generous spirit. - Julene is survived by her mother Irma Almond and husband Ed; daughters Lori Fritz (Marty), Angela Hayne (Mike); brothers Larry Neil (Sandy), Mel Neil (Karen), Dave Almond, Mike Almond (Sally), and Tom Almond (Olga); granddaughter Kaitlyn Gannon; grandsons Josh Hayne, Jared Fritz, Luke Fritz, and Adam Fritz; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, she is survived by her children by marriage, Jason Meredith (Julie), Travis Wood, and Brady Anderson-Wood (Elaine). - Julene was preceded in death by her father Robert Neil and her husband Charles Wood. - The family extends our heartfelt appreciation for the outstanding and compassionate care provided by Dr. Stephen Anthony, Dr. Brett Gourley, and Nancy Mortlock, RN. In addition, we thank the staff at Hospice House North for their loving care and support of Julene and her family. - By Julene’s request, there will be a family-only graveside service. In lieu of flowers, Julene requested that donations may be made to Transitions Gate, N 12402 Division #248, Spokane WA 99218.
