Josephine M. Hendricks

October 15, 1913 - September 16, 2012

HENDRICKS, Josephine (Age 98) Josephine passed away peacefully on September 16, 2012. She died one month prior to her 99th birthday. Jo was born in Mansfield, WA on October 15, 1913, growing up in Wenatchee and Seattle attending Roosevelt High and the U. of Washington. She was a long time resident of Spokane since 1937, living a vibrant life, raising four children, working, and serving the Lord and her community. She enjoyed a wonderful 57 year marriage with her husband, Frank, until his death in 1992. Her many talents included: writing, music, cooking, bridge and political opinions. Her community involvements included: Manito Presbyterian Elder, Moderator of Presbyterian women, Westminster Food Bank coordinator, Hamblen Park Presbyterian worship and social concerns, Fig Tree editorial staff, League of Women Voters, United Nations committees, Hmong refugee program, and Peace & Justice League. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her husband Frank, son Ross, and youngest son Charlie. She is survived by her two daughters: Joanne King and Shirley Backlund. Jo was blessed to have Shirley as her loving caregiver. Her grandchildren include: Jaymie Tiffany, Elizabeth Riggs, Aime Butler, Alison Martin, Bruce Backlund, Brian Backlund, and Charles Hendricks. She is survived by 15 great-grand-children and 5 great-greats. We would like to give thanks to Parkway Village and Horizon Hospice for the loving care of Josephine. Memorials may be made to her church or The Fig Tree, 1323 S. Perry St. Spokane, WA 99202. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, September 21st at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline, Spokane, WA. 99203.
