John Strauss Jr., 78 years old, passed into the arms of Jesus on August 4th, 2026.

After a brave and courageous fight with Parkinson’s disease for over 16 years, he never lost his faith in Jesus Christ.

John was born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1948.  His father, John Strauss Sr. and his father’s twin brother Jim Strauss were well known for building homes in the Lincoln area.  Later, moving to Colorado, John grew up in the home building industry, learning every trade and phase of building a home.  Moving to Spokane in 1994 with his wife Debbie, he dug right into the building industry.

For everyone who knew John, the loss of his passing is deeply felt.  Especially to those that called him husband, dad, & grandpa.  He always made you feel important by listening to what you had to say.  John loved to help friends & family with their projects.  He was a very generous man & helping others was important to him.

He had his own general contracting company, White Hawk Construction, and built custom and spec homes in the Spokane area.  He was also sought after for his trim carpentry skills with other contractors.

John was a quiet, kind, patient, intelligent man with a quick wit that would take you by surprise and make you laugh out loud.  He was always there to support and encourage his family & friends with loving empathy and a hug if you were within reach.

John is survived by his wife, Deb Strauss, Son, John Strauss III, Daughter, Angela Doud & Husband Chris Doud.   Stepson’s Travis Carter, & Craig Carter & Wife Kelli.  Eight Grandchildren; Hannah Hoelz & Husband Collin Hoelz, Samantha Strauss, Evan Strauss, Blake Doud & Wife Kaya Doud, Avery Carter, Landon Carter, & Knox Carter.   Two Great-Grandchildren, Davis & Walker Hoelz.

John will be deeply missed, and hearts are broken in those he left behind, but oh what joy he must feel to be face to face with his Savor Jesus!  Heaven is rejoicing and no more pain and sorrow.

John’s Celebration of Life will be on Sept. 19th at 10:00 AM

Spokane Calvary Church
