March 29, 1936 - December 24, 2021
Jerry Eugene Wilmot was called to heaven the morning of Dec 24, 2021. Just as he did on their first date, Jerry was holding his wife’s hand as he passed peacefully in his sleep. Jerry loved Jesus, Family, Kids and Sports. And if he could combine any of those things, it was a good day. At his core, Jerry was a teacher and a coach. Whether he was teaching high school, coaching basketball, or leading a bible study, he did it all with joy in his heart. As an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Jerry served as a deacon, led men’s groups, drove the church bus and showed his love for Jesus by helping wherever he could. With a posse of their dearest friends, Jerry and Bonnie spent time skiing and bicycle touring. He never missed a Bulldogs game or Seahawks party. A true adventurer, he enjoyed backpacking, camping, water skiing, fly fishing on the St. Joe River and Kelly Creek, and walking his dogs. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He met his wife, Bonnie, in 1997 and they were married in 1998, after the proposal of the century! Jerry was born March 29, 1936 to Gerald and Leone Wilmot in Macomb IL. He graduated from high school in Colorado Springs and earned a bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University. He proudly served in the US Army from 1959-1961, and later attended Northern Arizona University, earning his master’s degree. Jerry began his teaching and coaching career in Davenport IA, later moving to Moorpark CA. In 1974 he relocated his family to Cheney WA, teaching and coaching at the local high school until his retirement. In later years he coached teams at Eastern and Whitworth College. Jerry found a home with Northwest Basketball Camp where he could share his love of Christ and basketball with athletes across the world. His coaching endeavors led him to South America, East and West Germany, Australia and the UK. Jerry is survived by his wife Bonnie, his sister Peggy, his children Teresa (Chris), Jon (Jeanie), Erin (Doug), Justin (Amy), and Bethany (Oliver), and his grandchildren Yukai, Kol, Kiah, Rylie, Logan, Annika, and Landon. We loved him dearly, as we know he loved us. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his son Jimmy and grandson Austin. - Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Spokane on January 13, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. - In Lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Union Gospel Mission, NBC Camps or the charity of your choice.
