HUBER, Jean March 1, 1939 – April 6, 2023 Jean Arley Huber was born during a blizzard on March 1, 1939, in Herreid, South Dakota to Arthur and Freida Huber. The family later moved to Baker, Montana, Bozeman, Montana, and Ellensburg, Washington, and settled in Spokane in 1952, where Jean graduated from North Central High School. After high school, she worked for New York Life and then attended Eastern Washington University where she graduated in 1969 and also completed the Sacred Heart Medical Center School of Medical Technology in 1970. She was employed at the SHMC Chemistry Laboratory for 40 years. She served on the SHMC Credit Union Audit Committee for several years. In 1983, the credit union was renamed the United Health Services Credit Union. The name was selected in a contest that was won by Jean. Retirement provided more time for Jean’s many hobbies including bicycling, hiking, playing the guitar, camping, birding, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, traveling, fly-fishing, and fly-tying. Those that were gifted with the beautiful flies she tied were sure to catch fish. She could always be identified on the lake by her voice yelling “It is a really big, beautiful fish." Despite a fear of flying, she traveled to Tahiti, England, France, Amsterdam, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Italy. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Arlo Huber, her sister Donna Evans, her niece Rae Jean Johnson, her niece Tami Kitts and her nephew Michael Scott Kitts. She is survived by her sister-in-law Gwen Huber, niece Gail (Ron) Graves, niece Shannon Craft, nephew Mark Huber, niece-in-law Katherine Kitts, best friend and fishing buddy Dana Duzan, and her beloved Shiz-Tsu Bailee. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 29 at 1 pm at Pines Mausoleum, 12116 E 16th Avenue, Spokane Valley, WA. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of Jean’s favorite charities: The Nature Conservancy (nature.org), Spokane Humane Society (spokanehumanesociety.org), or SpokAnimal (spokanimal.org).
