Jared knew and loved much. Most of all Jared knew and loved Jesus! He loved happy songs-anything with a joyful beat. Diagnosed with autism before age two, Jared was mostly non-verbal and communicated with limited sign language. His mom often told him how special he was to God every time she’d sing “Jesus Loves Me!” or sing: “God did a good job when He made you! He did a good job, with eyes so blue. God, did a good job, when He made our big boy, Jared!”
His “clicking sounds” were his happy sounds! His simple joys in life were walks to parks, waving a twirling dangling sensory toy or American flag in the air, playing basketball, YMCA pool fun, participating in Project ID, 24–36-piece puzzles, PlayDoh, Potato Head, Sesame Street and Disney videos, slinkies, playing pool, his blue blanket, making cookies, waffles, or scones, enjoying the whole process, reading picture books, especially ‘Good Night Moon’.
Jared graduated from Bremerton High School in 2006. He worked at Rainier RHC in Buckley, WA, and at Fircrest RHC in Shoreline, WA on the recycling crew. He lived at Columbia House, Spokane, WA and at Fircrest RHC, Shoreline, WA. Our family is grateful to all staff who cared for Jared, and gave him a meaningful quality of life. A celebration of Jared’s life was held July 9, 2026 with Jared’s REM SEVITA staff and Jared’s mom at his supportive living Columbia House in Spokane, WA.
His family remember Jared with gratitude for the years we were privileged to share with him, and the years we shared him with others, celebrating birthdays and holidays and the joy of life with him. A family service celebrating Jared’s life will take place at Jared’s family home in Lake Tapps, WA, followed by burial at Woodbine Cemetery, in Puyallup, WA.
Jared’s last gift was of sight through the Lions World Vision Institute to grateful 83- and 84-year-old recipients and skin and tissue donations to Life Center. Now Jared sees Jesus! “Jared, eyes so blue! We loved you!”
God has given Jared his best placement ever, his home in heaven! “The streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets.” Zechariah 8:5 We know you had Jesus in your heart and are now face to face with Him. We too, who know and love Jesus, will see Him and you, again!
Jared is survived by his mom, Elaine Skene, and his brothers, Jonathan and Jordan Skene.
Memorial contributions in honor of Jared’s life to benefit those with disabilities in need of supportive living services may be made to REM SEVITA, 901 East 2nd AVE Ste.301, Spokane, WA 99202.
