Janet Orr, of Spokane, Washington, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026. She was 89.

Born on May 17, 1936 in Spokane to Hugh (Hap) Wright and Frances (Tan) Burks Wright, Janet spent her early years in Spokane. After attending Lewis & Clark High School and WSU in Pullman, she married Don McKeehen. They raised their three sons; Doug, Bob and Dave, in Bellevue, WA. Janet worked for the Bellevue School District for many years and moved to Port Ludlow with her second husband, John Orr. Eventually, she returned to her beloved Spokane.

For Janet, friendship was the ultimate lifelong commitment. She always remained close with her sister, Margaret Cordes, and high school friends. It was among these peers and her extended family that she was happiest. She loved to laugh, and loved a sharp sense of humor in others.

Throughout her life, Janet served as a sanctuary for many. This role extended far beyond her three sons to include her niece and nephew, neighborhood kids, and the students she looked after as an elementary school duty teacher. Her commitment to children and animals continued through her volunteer work at Free Rein Therapeutic Riding in Spokane, where she found great joy in helping others.

Janet was a strong individual who loved her independence. Despite suffering a stroke several years ago, she persevered with courage, humor and good spirits.

She is survived by her three sons, their wives Jean, Connie and Kalise, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, her niece Julie and nephew Mark as well as a network of lifelong friends. She will be greatly missed!

In keeping with her spirited nature, a celebration of life will be held to honor her through the stories and laughter she shared with so many. Of course, boxed wine will be served.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Free Rein Therapeutic Riding in Spokane, WA.
