James A. Meagley passed away on January 20, 2026, in Spokane, Washington. He was born on March 16, 1931, in McLaughlin, South Dakota, to James and Eileen Meagley.
James attended first through eighth grade in South Dakota before moving to Spokane, Washington, in 1945. He later attended North Central High School from 1946 to 1949 and served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
In 1953, James married Patricia Connors, who brought two children, Vicki Powell and Gary Powell, into the marriage. Together they later had three children: Paula Lutsey-Meagley, Leslie Dobson-Meagley, and Mike Meagley. James made his home in Valley Ford, Washington, where he lived for 68 years.
James worked for Alaska Steel for 25 years and later for Dixon Iron for five years. He was a faithful member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church and served as a volunteer with the Valley Ford Fire Department. He enjoyed time spent with his family, was an avid Seattle Seahawks fan, and especially loved teaching his grandchildren to sing silly songs.
Patricia A. Meagley preceded him in death on March 20, 2010.
James is survived by his family, including five children, eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on February 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 11315 East Broadway, Spokane Valley. A reception will follow. Graveside services will be held at Spokane Memorial Gardens following the reception. All friends and family are invited. Donations may be made to Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
