Jack Miller Thompson

October 17, 1941 - March 16, 2021

THOMPSON, Jack Miller Jack Thompson passed away in Spokane, WA on March 16, 2021. He was born in Chappell, NE to Lloyd and Alice Thompson on October 17, 1941. After he graduated high school he enlisted in the Navy and proudly served on the USS Ranger (CVA-61) for four years and loved it! He and his brothers got special permission from the Navy to serve on the carrier at the same time. While he served, he studied biology, and took wood/metal shop classes and was an Aviation Mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1965. His employment was quite varied and interesting, and he actually loved doing each job: a master carpenter, contractor, certified to remove hazardous materials, handyman, and performed maintenance for Johnson and Wales Culinary College, until he retired in 2011. He and his brothers were raised on a farm by their grandparents, due to the fact that their parents were killed in a car accident when he was 2 years old. His love of agriculture, animals, and gardening came from those years. He lived in Julesburg, Strasberg, Denver, and Black Hawk, CO. He moved to Spokane, WA for health reasons in 2018. His passions were gardening, playing pool, and he enjoyed traveling to partake in Oktoberfest’s all over Colorado. He was quite the dancer, from country to polka, and met his wife Judy when he went to ask her to dance, tripped/fell, and while on his back, asked her to dance since he already fell for her. Jack volunteered his time and carpentry skills to help many animal shelters, as well as homing many animals over the years. Jack is survived by his wife, Judy Thompson; children from his first marriage, Greg, Kristine, and Janeen Kittle; son from his second marriage, Jacob Thompson; stepdaughter from his third marriage, Bonnie Solan; brothers Jerry and Rex Thompson; and his beloved dog, Oreo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Alice Thompson; and grandparents Jacob and Ollie Thompson. Jack will have a celebration of life service in the Spokane area in late April, and a Wake in CO in late May.
