Henry Miki

December 27, 1935 - November 19, 2014

MIKI, Henry (age 78) Born on December 27, 1935, Henry passed away peacefully in his Spokane home on November 21, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with ALS. Born in Matsqui, British Columbia, he moved with his family to central Canada near Winnipeg to become tenant farmers during World War II. After the war, he and his family moved back to B.C. where he completed his education, graduating from Queen Elizabeth High School and then receiving a degree in Electrical Engineering from U. B.C. After moving to California, and while visiting family in B.C., he met his future wife Mihoko, who had travelled from Japan and was working for a missionary minister. The newlywed couple then moved to Los Angeles, where Henry had begun a lifelong and productive career in the aerospace industry. Enjoying a quiet life, he spent long hours in the garden growing fruits, vegetables and many flowers, his favorite being roses. Other pastimes included coin collecting, restoring fountain pens, bird watching, and college football. Although he was physically weakened in his last years by ALS, Henry had great strength of mind and spirit. He will also be remembered for his quiet courage and grace, gentle sense of humor, humility, and the care that he exercised in everything that he did. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mihoko; daughter Seiko ; son-in-law Chris ; grandsons Alex and Luke; brother Patrick; sister-in-law Diane; nieces Kathy, Laureen, and Nancy; grand-nieces Marli and grand-nephews Ryan & Adam. Henry is preceded in death by his parents Masao and Tamako Miki, and his sister Joan. A memorial service will be held at Northwood United Church in Surrey, B.C. on 11/28/2014. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Spokane ALS Service Organization (ALSSO), in gratitude for their immeasurable kindness and support in Henryâ??s final years. We are also deeply grateful for the excellent, compassionate care Henry received through Hospice of Spokane. Community Cremation & Funeral Spokane Valley 13127 E.
