Hazel Helen Valencia - Hazel Helen Parsons was born on December 28th, 1927 in Vandervoort, Arkansas to Curtis Parsons and Hester Daniel Parsons. Hazel and Feliciano, her husband, joined spirits on November 6th 2017. Hazel attended school in Vandervoort where she loathed picking or eating green beans. The Parsons family relocated to Mullan, Idaho where she graduated from high school in 1946. Hazel met her first husband Frank Robert Nelson and had 3 children; Cheryl, Carolyn and Frank Robert Nelson JR. The Nelsons resided in the Spokane area and established themselves in Liberty Lake, WA. Hazel completed her Bachelors of Education from Eastern Washington University. She began her teaching career in the Spokane Area. Hazel remarried and moved with her children to Thompson Falls, MT. where she taught high school. Hazel was offered a teaching position in Billings, MT. where she also obtained her Masters in Reading from Eastern Montana College. Missing the beautiful greenery and mountains she moved back to Washington State. She taught and lived in the Colville area for several years. Wanting to return to lake life, Hazel returned to Liberty Lake and built her dream home. During the summers Hazel traveled to the University of Hawaii to complete her Masters of Library Sciences. An opportunity to teach on the island of Guam presented itself and she moved there to teach as a librarian. She met her soul mate Feliciano Valencia while in Guam. She earned her second retirement and they returned to her home in Liberty Lake. Hazel enjoyed learning about different cultures and traveled extensively around the world. Hazel is preceded in death by her husband Feliciano Valencia and son Frank Robert Nelson JR. Hazel is survived by daughters Cheryl Canfield of Deer Lodge, MT and Carolyn White of Selah, WA. She has 6 beautiful grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life is in the planning for this spring.
