February 10, 1924 - December 16, 2015
Beloved mother, sister, grand, great, and great-great grandmother, affectionately known as “Momma Jones”, passed away in peace on December 16 in Spokane, Washington at the age of 91. Hannah Ross-Jones was born in February 1924 on the Marydale plantation (Tensas Parish) also known as Saint Joseph, LA. She later moved to California to escape the cotton fields. While on vacation in Spokane she met and married the love of her life Rev. Jesse Jerry Jones pastor and founder of New Hope Baptist Church. It was Hannah who named the church after the new hope she found upon arriving in Spokane via California. To this union was born 7 children. Grief and tragedy struck in 1961, when her husband died, leaving her to raise their seven young children alone. However Her New Hope Never wavered. One of her favorite Songs was “I will trust in the Lord”. Even as her body became frail and weak in recent years, Momma Jones' spirit remained mighty and strong. She loved to pray, sing and talk about the goodness of the Lord. She became a living testimony of how God is a ‘keeper’ and can use a life surrendered to Him. Her legacy of charity and prayer is an inspiration that will continue on. Momma Jones Legacy will go on forever through the generations of 9 grandchildren, 13 Great-Grand Children, 2 Great-Great grandchildren and numerous amounts of friends & family members in Spokane and nationwide. There will be a viewing of Momma Jones held at Heritage Funeral Home on Sunday December 27th from 5pm-7pm.
