Gerald Hansen was born on January 24, 1933 to Elmer and Lucille Hansen at the family farm in Latah, Washington and passed away on October 12, 2016 in Spokane Valley. He was the grandson of Latah pioneers Fred and Carrie Pottratz and Hans and Hancina Hansen of Fairfield, Washington. He attended school in Latah and went to high school in Fairfield where he graduated in 1951. While in school he played football, baseball and basketball and involved in the F.F.A. In 1951 he was on the All-State B basketball team. Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Navy. In 1956 he married Pearl Niles of Spokane. They raised two children, Darryl of Spokane and Teri of Albion, and lived in the Spokane Valley their whole lives. He was involved in Little League baseball and Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and boating, activities with his family and friends, football and baseball. He was employed as a welder, in the Civil Services for Fairchild Air Force Base for 35 years and received many awards before retiring in 1989. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Canestro; and granddaughter, Michelle Hansen. He is survived by his wife Pearl of 60 years; son Darryl; daughter Teri; two grandchildren Josh Hansen and Melanie Ledoux; two great grandchildren Evelyn and Everett Ledoux; 2 brothers Arvin Hansen and James Fredrick; sister Karen Wilson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 2pm at the Spokane Valley United Methodist church 115 N. Raymond Rd.
