In Loving Memory

Gail Rector Quaid

March 21,1949 - July 2, 2026

Gail was born to loving parents Everett “Rex” Rector and Ole (nee Walling). The family included two brothers, Ron and Jack.

Gail’s childhood was marred by a diagnosis of diabetes at age seven. The family was told she would unlikely live to age thirty. Regardless, the family persevered and Gail was home schooled culminating with an honor graduation from Rogers High school.

Gail learned keypunching and began her work at Holy Family Hospital for several years until changing direction and gaining employment at Murphey-Favre where Gail flourished through hard work and company loyalty.

Gail took on greater responsibility, eventually earning an executive title at Murphy and its successor Washington Mutual, eventually chose to retire when the company moved to Seattle, WA and to focus her efforts on her family and adopted son.

Gail loved Spokane and participated in many organizations and activities. Foremost, she was involved in the Spokane Guild School (Joya). She was extremely proud of her involvement with the school, once named volunteer of the year. She is remembered for her overflowing change jars in anticipation of the yearly Penny Drive, as well as her work with the auction committee and her time serviced with the board.

During her retirement, Gail spent her time enjoying the company of her many friends and grandson Henry. She is survived by her husband Steven, son Bernard, grandson Henry, brother Ron Rector, close friends Judy Dyerson, Dawn Abernathy, Kathie Bot, Meg Miezwa, Linda Mayer, Bill Papesh, Cousin Nola Hansen, and countless extended family.

Almost twelve years ago to the day, Gail suffered a major heart attack at Northside Walmart. Two (still unknown) bystanders performed emergency procedures that sustained her until emergency services arrived. After surgery she made a complete recovery. The courage, steadfastness and great skill of these bystanders resulted in an extra twelve years of a wonderful life enjoyed by not only Gail but also by her family and friends.

Gail will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, consideration, affection, large hats, unending collection of shoes, and eccentric fashion.

Memorial Services will be held July 22, 2026, 11:00 am at Sunset Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park, Spokane, WA.  Reception at Kalispel Golf and Country Club 1-4 pm.

The world was blessed by her presence here. Such a beautiful. Gracious, kind heart. She could light up a room. I remember when I was a kid and didn’t have much she was a teenager and she gave me her Barbie and Barbie case full of clothes! Back then I thought that was the best gift I could have gotten! I was so proud of it. Loved her very much. Prayers for Steve and Ben and other family and friends of Gail’s.
