May 24, 1928 - November 16, 2013
Of Spokane, passed into Godâ??s hands the morning of November 17, 2013. She was born in Lansing, Michigan on May 24, 1928 to Fred and Hazel Bartley. Her family moved to Washington state when she was a young girl and lived most of her life in Kirkland, Washington. She married after WWII and had three children. In 1951 she met and married the true love of her life, Ron Dorning. Our youngest brother was born of that union. Upon retirement they moved to Spokane, Washington to be near family. In Spokane, Virginia joined the Salvation Army Womenâ??s Auxiliary and was a member for many years; she made many lasting friendships during this time. Virginia helped raise money for Camp Gifford, Sallyâ??s House and volunteered for the Christmas Bureau. She was a wonderful cook, but she was famous for her cookies. Whenever you visited fresh cookies were on the table along with a great conversation, a lot of laughter plus a bag of cookies to take home. Virginia was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen. She is survived by her husband, Ron, of 62 years; son, Paul Dorning and wife Nancy; daughter, Ginnie Parker; son, Wayne Dorning; sister, Altha Donald; brother, Roscoe Bartley and wife Nita; ten grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Our mother cared for and helped so many. She always had a smile and a kind word; she will be missed by everyone who knew her. A celebration of momâ??s life will be held at a later date.
