Edith Cain

November 13, 1925 - October 04, 2017

The Angels arrived on October 4, 2017 to take our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother home. She fought a valiant fight against Alzheimer's unfortunately it won. She was born Friday the 13th November 1925 to Gunnar and Agnes Peterson, Swedish immigrants. Being from a large family she was the eighth of eleven children all raised on a small farm between Barstow and Orient Washington. She attended the Larsen School, a one room school house, for Elementary and later graduated from Marcus High School. After graduation, she worked at Fonk's five and dime in Colville, WA. Her husband to be, Thomas Cain, would buy a candy bar from her every day. Their short courtship was all of 6 weeks they married on September 7, 1945. Their "Love at first sight" lasted 61 years until his death in 2007 all the while residing in Spokane, WA. Edith was a homemaker, seamstress and wonderful cook and Baker. Gardening was one of her hobbies. Her yard and garden were a source of pride. She was known as "Toy Grandma" to her grandchildren. Whenever they visited she would always give them her full attention. Making Lincoln Log cabins, fishing poles out of Tinker Toys, drawing pictures, baking and sewing with her granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents Gunnar and Agnes Peterson, Sisters Anna, Gunhild and Lilly. Brothers Hart, Axel, Ragnar, Herb and Ernest. Husband Thomas Cain and son-in-law Richard Hiett. She is survived by two sisters Edna Annabelle, West Seattle, and Irene Hogan of Livermore, California. Two daughters Karen Hiett and Lorrie Beach (Carl). Four grandchildren Jason Hiett (Tawny) Heather Moore (Dan) Mathew Hiett (Kinsey) and Tug Beach (Shelbi). Five great grandchildren Jayddun, Brandon, Lucie, Haley and Colt. All of Spokane. We wish to thank all the caregivers that provided their love and support to our Mother through the years. They are truly "Angels" on Earth. A Celebration of Life will be at Darcy's restaurant in the valley...10512 E. Sprague at 5:30 on November 24,2017. Memorials can be sent to the Alzheimer's association.
