Dwight Lee Janzen

January 12, 1931 - October 29, 2018

Dwight Lee Janzen, 87, of Spokane, died peacefully at home in the early hours of Monday, October 29, 2018. He was born on January 12th, 1931 in Dos Palos, California to Samuel and Narsa (White) Janzen. Dwight will be lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley of 64 years, his daughters Debra Janzen of Spokane, Carol Janzen of Anchorage, and son Phillip Janzen (Coleen) of Spokane; granddaughters Taylor (Janzen) Tobias of Springfield, Virginia and Carter Janzen of Boone, North Carolina; sister-in-law Beverly Janzen of Spokane; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Dwight was a longtime resident of Spokane growing up in Browns Edition and attended Lewis & Clark High School where his mother also attended. After High School, he enlisted in the Navy serving from 1948 to 1951 as a Metalsmith aboard the USS Mt. McKinley. His service included participation in the invasion of Inchon, Korea in 1950. Dwight continued his association with the US Navy later in life as a member and leader in the USS Mt McKinley Association organizing and participating in association business and annual reunions. Dwight was a successful businessman in Spokane for 47 years, owning and operating Janzen & Janzen Steel Fabricators Inc, with his brother Wayne. He was a faithful servant to his family and others, evidenced by his deep involvement in his local church and foster parenting for 12 years with his wife, Shirley. Dwight is preceded in death by his parents, sister Patricia Elaine (Janzen) Evans and brother Robert Wayne Janzen. A memorial service will be held at Christ Our Hope Bible Church, 1620 N. Monroe, Spokane, WA on Saturday, November 10, from 2:00-3:00 PM.
