Downey Colbert Cunningham III

September 16, 1952 - October 29, 2019

Downey Colbert Cunningham III passed away on October 29, 2019 at age 67 in Spokane Wa. in the presence of his wife and other family members, after an 8 month battle with cancer. Downey was born Sept 16, 1952 at Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois to Downey Jr and Lou Cunningham. He lived his school years in Renton Washington graduating from Renton High School in 1971. On November 10, 1973 he married Linda Ring, they lived in Kent Washington until this past September when they moved to Spokane. Together they had a daughter Dawn Simmons and five sons Downey IV, Aaron (Karyn), Bradley, Landon (Kristen) and Austyn. Downey also welcomed into his home over 400 foster children, many living with them for several years and who think of him as their “dad." Downey worked as a cook in both a nursing home and restaurants before working at Savage Wholesale building windows then becoming a truck driver. In the early 1980’s Downey got his specialty contractors license and he and Linda and often the children worked together painting houses, churches, schools, medical buildings etc. until he retired in 2014. Downey was all about family. Downey dedicated his life to the Lord in 1976 and other than God, his family was his number one. He loved his family! Downey was preceded in death by his son Bradley in 2004 (age 19) and his father Downey Jr in January of 2019. He is survived by his mother Lou, wife Linda, his children mentioned above and his eight grandchildren, Adin, Tanner & Rayna Simmons also Titus, Ava, Adalyn, Lola and Lucy Cunningham . He is also survived by his two sisters and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins etc. Downey will be greatly missed by his family and the numerous friends he has retained since high school and those he has met at church, BSF and through his travels. All are welcome to join us for a Celebration of Life for Downey at NWLife Church 13120 SE 192nd St, Renton, WA 98058 - November 16, 2019 at 2 PM.
