Thompson, Donald Jay (90) - January 5, 1927- March 18, 2017 - Donald Jay Thompson was born on January 5, 1927, to Fern (Harmon) and Donald Aaron Thompson in Spokane, WA. He attended Audubon Elementary School in Spokane. After the family moved to Havre, Montana, he graduated from Havre High School. Don served in the US Army in Adak, Alaska, from 1945 to 1947. After his WWII duties ended, Don attended Kinman Business University in Spokane. He worked as a credit manager for Sherwin Williams Paint Company for 35 years. In 1948, Don married Gwendolyn Greta Miller. Don and Gwen were married for 65 years until her death in 2013. They shared a love of barbershop singing, golf, motorcycling, and traveling with their 5th-wheel. Don was also an excellent woodcrafter - remodeling family homes, creating furniture, and later in life, carving birds for friends and family. - Don is preceded in death by his parents and son, Douglas Brian Thompson. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Headstrom (Bob); son David Thompson (Diane); and brother Dick Thompson (Marilyn) and family. Don is survived by 5 grandchildren, Becky Headstrom, Pat Headstrom (Peggy), Aaron Thompson, Michael Thompson, and Justin Thompson; and 4 great-grandchildren, Hance Smith, Indya Smith, Abby Headstrom, and Carter Headstrom. Don requested no funeral services. His family will celebrate his life at a gathering to be held in Seattle later this spring. The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Society, Cornerstone Memory Care, and Horizon Hospice for their loving care during the last years of Don's life.
